Ford 9 inch 31 or 28 spline axles....
I have an 81 F-150 with an 86 9 inch axle. The axle has 3.50 gears non-LS. My question is How do I tell if the truck has 31 or 28 spline axles without pulling them to find out? I know about the three little countersunk holes at the end of the axles mean that it has 31 splines but I heard that ford also made 28 spline axles like that for trucks as well. Is there a way to tell from the axle codes?
