I have a 97 F-350 and I am look at adding a third fuel tank in the bed. I want to route this directly to the engine, not to refill one of the tanks I already have. I am currently fabricating my tank, I just need help with the plumbing details. Any help would be AWESOME!

I have a 97 f-350 7.3 PSD and I would like to add a 3rd fuel tank in the bed "hidden" under the toolbox. I am currently building the tank but I am not sure of the plumbing. I want this take to be totally seperate from the factory two. Any help would be great.

 

Hidden and totally seperate? Planning on running some red fuel on the highway?

 

i would use another selector valve that would be placed in front of (toward the engine)of the factory valve.

 

I'm not sure where the selector valve is located, but I will take a look today. Also what kind of pump will I need to get the fuel from my new tank to the engine. I understand there is a pump in each of my two tanks to get the fuel to the engine but the fuel isnt under pressure at this point. Correct?

 

If you want a bigger tank in the bed, the best way to do this would be to just unhook the two lines from one of the current fuel tanks and hook them into your new one.

 

What about pumping the fuel? Isnt the pump mounted in the factory tank?

 

I'm not sure. Mine isn't on any of my trucks, but I don't have anything quite that new.

 

YOu can buy a fuel pump that mounts on the fuel lines at a parts store for very little.

 

A small, low pressure (7-9 psi) transfer pump would be perfect in that application.

The factory pump on your 97 is mounted in the engine valley, below the turbo.

 

Last fall our Department of Tax and Revenue Criminal Investigation Division guys went out to Ohio to learn about a sniffer that samples the exhaust to detect off road fuel, WVO and biodiesel. No more dipping the tanks. I am also expecting a crackdown on WVO and home made biodiesel this year or next if you don't pay the road tax on it.
Why else would you spend all the money for the sniffer if you can dip tanks with a 50 cent tube and catch off road diesel or WVO.

I don't know this to be in the works, but I have a gut feeling it is.

I have not been stopped by them this year yet, so I don't know if we are doing it by dipping tanks or the sniffer this year yet. I have confidence I will know in the next month or so though since it is getting warmer outside.
