second battery wiring diagram
I have a 1968 f-250 ranger camper special. I am trying to find a wiring diagram for the second battery which I want to install exclusively for the vanguard camper. Do both batteries need to be the same or can I mix a deep cycle with a starting battery...Heeelllp

second battery wiring diagram
I dont have a wiring diagram , well at least I cant find one as we are in the middle of getting ready to move and all my "stuff" I have amassed over the years is packed up
The best way to set up 2 batteries is to get a battery isolator. Then you hook the alternator output to the middle terminal of it, and a 10 guage wire from the main battery positive terminal to the left isolator terminal and the another 10 guage wire from the aux battery positive to the right isolator terminal.
This way the batteries are electrically separated but each can be charged from the same alternator. The main battery, the first one you had, runs all the truck stuff. The other only needs a fused wired run back to the camper from the battery positive to feed all the camper stuff. Of course you also have to run a ground wire from the truck frame to the aux battery negative and to the camper for a return path.
Hope this helps some

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-May-02 AT 01:37 AM (EST)]This is for under the hood hook-up.
If the battery for the camper is in a different place ,you already know the power lead has to be routed to it.
Also, with this illustration delete the solenoid & switch mentioned on the left.
They are NOT needed.

Mil1ion, if he sets it up like that that he will have to have the same type batterys on both sides and the aux battery will not be used just for the camper. He will just have the two batterys working together in parallel.
I drew that pic up for a self-jumpstart system. It wasn't drawn up for a battery to be used in just one area or for charging.
What he'll want to do if his truck is not already setup for dual batterys is get an isolater and wire it up as per the directions. then just run the positive from the aux battery to the camper.
