I dug up some old pics of my 2000 Expy and I stand corrected, the grille was more similar to what you show, without the honey comb when I view the close ups.

Cool, then atleast we are getting somewhere. Its definately an Expedition grille then. And judging by the date stamp on the back its gotta be the 99 & up. Perhaps all the long the Expy's and trucks were slightly different shape? But maybe similar enough to not really notice? Well its definatly enough for me to notice and even doubt that it may fit my surround. Anyhoo, I should have enough info now that maybe I'll try posting it on ebay.

I was watching a new honeycomn grille on ebay today, unfortunatly I didnt notice something until it was too late. It was titled '97-'03 f150 grille. I sent the seller a message asking about the year issue but it was down to the last couple hours and I never heard back from him. It only went for $15. Dam I wish I new if it would have fit. So many times I see them listed as '97-'03 and I tell em its gotta be either 97-98 or 99-03. I even had one guy that said his friend was a ford mechanic and they were the same. Then I mailed him a picture of the front of both models and told him to look at how the later one doesnt go flat across the bottom and the earlier one does. Then he said 'oh, I see'.

So my new question is when did ford use the actual honeycomb pattern? Was it only on the '99 and up or was it used on the earlier ones too?

When I bought my truck new it has a honeycomb grille in it. The Lariat models had the honeycomb grilles too. I am not sure about the XLT models. The XL models definitely had a different grille. As for the Expeditions, they had a honeycomb grille with a horizontal crease just below center.

The 97-98 is a diamond pattern, the 99-up is honeycomb.

Thats what i suspected, Smaug. The 97-98 base models then probably had the single horizontal bar were as the 99 up had the 2 horizontal bars like mine.

KingRanch, I know what you mean about the crease, I have seen that. However my grille in question with the grid pattern doesnt have the crease. Does that mean anything?
