Thinking about buying used

Even with Ford's rebates I think i'm better off taking the used route than laying down some major cash for an '06. This is the truck I have found and fell in love with...

The dealer is currently wanting $32995 for it. What do you guys think is a far price? It's a 2003 king ranch with a long bed. It has the 6.0 PSD with 70000 miles. Other than that, the only other modifications are the lift. I was going to offer 31995, what do you think? Anything I should look for on the truck? Thanks!

70000 on a 2003? i dont have much more than that on my 99. but it definately looks nice though. i would start with a lower offer and then you can always work up if you have to.

70,000 miles ? wow...i only got 60,000 on my 99. It's a beautiful truck indeed, i love it too. Offer lower. I start off around $28,500. The dealer was askin $16,500 for my 99 Lariat F-250 V-10 w/ all types of goodies....I got him down to $11,500 GOOD LUCK and hope you get her !

Beautiful truck but has a lot of miles. If you are financing this truck, you will get a better interest rate on a new one. Also, if you can pay $32,000.00, I would see what
kind of deal I could get on a new one with incentives and lower interest rate. This time of year they sweeten the pot on their 06's. At least check it out and then decide which truck you want.

I'm no expert, but aren't those 10-bolt wheels some kind of conversion?

Yeah I love the truck but the miles scare me. I can get a 6% rate from my credit union which is the best around here. I've looked at a new truck with incentives and I can get it down a ways with x-plan but it would still be about $10,000 and it's stock. The best rate I can get on a new loan is 5.25% so only .75% diffrence. I'm going to work with them on the price, I guess starting at $28,500.

So you think they will be hurt to sell the new ones in a month or two? I'm sort of in a pickle because if I jump the gun to buy this one then the new ones get cheeper later i'm going to hate my self but if I wait around for a deal on a new one and it never happens, i lost a deal on this truck.

I had a similiar situation when I bought my new 04, but now I am glad I bought new instead of used. Either way, you will be driving a Super Duty.........

Good luck,

IMHO...I would consider a NEW or at least newer SD. The 2003 6.0L was famous for having problems. Which is one of the reasons for the bad rep.

Before purchasing...PLEASE get a FORD Oasis Report...and even a CarFax. This will tell you the history of the SD...and maybe help you decide.

With the HIGH mileage...they are asking to much...and even at $28k...is to much. Again...just IMHO.

Good luck either way...

I see it has 22.5inch wheels hence the actual miles is more than what the odometer reads.

Second, 6.0L engines build in 2003!!! It has its fair share of problems (although I personally can live with it). Play our card well by listing all negative aspects of the truck. Some dealers assume that they are selling Diesel truck that came factory fitted with a bucket of gold …

Coming to plus points of this truck; the truck has 22.5 wheels and bigger tires to go along with it. This combo will cost you about 5K (give or take). Also most of those bigger tires are re-build able and last for ever. I ‘am pretty sure that the truck is chipped, some chrome here and there, etc… all add up

In the end it is a very nice truck… I wonder where you found it

Yes they are, I think those wheels and tires are made for class 4 to class 6 trucks!

Is the Oasis report something I can get on here or should I just goto my local dealership with the vin? Am I going to be charged?

The Oasis report should be free and YES you can get it at your local nice dealership...with VIN in hand.

Shows the history of warranty work and recall info.

The dealer gave me a hard time about getting the report since it was suppose to be for their eyes only but after making him look stupid I finally have a copy.

The build date was 11/26/02 (sounds like the first 6.0...yikes!)
It also shows repair work done about 2 months ago and says

"Vehicle runs rough and starts hard. Perf diesel eng perf diag. PID Monppt. P WR Bal and ADV Power Bal. Found s1,2,5,7 injectors faulty. R&R Right and left valve covers and oil rails. Removed faulty injectors and replaced with new."

"Preform 06e 17 recall, recalibrate pcm ficm and tcm with latest version"

"cac tube damaged, monitor boost presure pass. remove cac tube and replace with new."

What do you guys make of this? Should I run away from it or try and get him down on the price?

Thanks!

That sounds normal - actually better than normal.
Replaced injectors (they would be the 94's I am guessing if it was an 03), a reflash and a CAC tube blown off.

Sounds VERY good for an 03. And the 03's REALLY haul too (and sound the best of the 6.0l's).

Well if that is all it says on the Oasis, that is not bad for an '03. Keep in mind the 6.0L has warranty until 100,000 miles. So you still have 30,000 to play with.

Tough call you have to make...but I would certainly try and talk them down on price. Good luck...whatever you decide.
