F150 Lariet
Hi I am new to the forum I have a couple of questions for the forum. Right now I am looking at a F150 Lariet 4.6 140,000 Miles on it. The guys wants 6000.00 for it does this sound like a decent price. How good is the 4.6 engine I used to have a 97 F250 with the 5.4 in it and they run strong so I was wondering about these engines and transmissions
Thank You Hunter

I have a '97 F-150 Lariat with the 4.6. I have 172,000 on it, the motor runs like new, and the truck still looks awesome! The 4.6 won't pull crap, but it fairly decent on gas, and it runs and runs. If the truck your looking at is in excellent condition, I'd say that 6,000 might be a good price.

Same old song. Got a 98 4.6L 50th anniversary lariat, looks great (still) runs great (at 96K) but not that great to tow with. In a pinch I put a ball on the bumper. Mine sits so high (4X4 off road with 17" rims) that it had the trailer tilted up.
Got a 99 with 5.4L with 16" and a real hitch, great for towing, but I love that anniversary truck. If it gets wrecked, I'm taking the seat out and mounting it on my deck.

It really depends on your need. If you're going to do towing more than occassionally, then it might not give you enough towing power you want. But if minimal towing is needed then it'll do you just fine. Lot of guys swear on their 4.6 for being workhorse as it doesn't die down easily. check www.kbb.com for the private party value.

I got my '97 XLT 4.6L 4x4 from the origional owner (elderly man...late 60's) last August for $8800. The truck was in immaculate condition. 80,000 miles, documented on every oil change, trans flush every 30K, 32" tires, new ball-joints, rear glass re-sealed, ect...
I pull loads of mulch (around 6K lbs last time at the scales), and my fourwheeler (around 2K lbs with trailer) quite frequently, and the truck does is great! Can't tell the ATV is back there, and it pulls the mulch with relative ease through the mountains where I live.
