My 04 with about 30000 miles can have a hard time goin into gear after i stop at a light or a stop sign. I go to put it into 1st and i push but it wont go. no noise or anything it just wont go. I try 2nd or 3rd and sometimes it does it there to but when it goes into one it will go into the others. Anyone know why? if im on a hill and try reverse to go up hill it does the same thing.

 

What you describe is quite "normal" for the Mazda M5OD transmission.

The easiest thing to do is slip it into second then go straight into first.
Pretty soon, it will become habit and you'll never even notice you are doing it.

Other shift issues are best addressed by being smooth and patient. Not much else you can do.

Just a quirk of the transmission. You just have to deal with it.
