wiring diagram for alt/reg

I have a 56 panel truck with a 460 engine. I have the ford alternator with the external regulator. Does anyone have any pics or diagrams on how to wire it? I need to know how to hook up battery to alternator to regulator and where does the starter solonoid figure in?
Thanks to all,
James

I do not know what Generation or year Alternator you have but here is a 1978~ diagram. This one is for a gauge and if you have a light I will re-post for you. I hope this answers your question, if not just ask.

Here's a diagram without the shunt and factory ammeter. Just to make sure you know the ammeter and shunt is optional, and a aftermarket voltmeter is a better choice. The choke wire is optional too. You can leave the "S" terminal on the alternator empty if you do not have a factory electric choke on the carb.

...Is the (I) connector on the regulator NOT used at all? I have a Holley Avenger carb. w/electric choke. So let me see:
The Alternator connects:B gets power from the battery side of the Solonoid.
F(field) gets connects to the F on the regulator.
S(stator?) gets connected to the electric carb choke.

The Regulator connects: I is NOT used.
A connects to the battery side of the solonoid.
S connects to the run on the ignition switch.
F connects to the F(field) on the alternator.

The "I" connection is left unused, unless you want to use a "gen" idiot light in the dash. The Ford charging systems with the external regulator had two different ways to wire them. It does not matter which you use, both will work. Here's the other way to wire it up.

The output wire from the alt to the bat + should be 10 gauge. Everything else can be 16 gauge or larger.
