Codes pulled for - blinking O/D light.....HELP!!!
Hey All,
I had the codes pulled for a blinking O/D light in my 98 Ranger.....
TROUBLESHOOTING P0708
The PCM has determined that the voltage signal from the transmission range sensor is too high for the current engine operating conditions.
Any ideas? Anyone?
Thanks

Digital Transmission Range (TR) Sensor
The digital transmission range sensor completes the start circuit in Park and Neutral, the back-up lamp circuit in Reverse and a Neutral sense circuit for GEM control of 4 x 4 low engagement. The sensor also opens/closes a set of four switches that are monitored by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to determine the position of the manual lever (P, R, N, D, 2, 1).
Sometimes called a Park/Nuetral Position Switch.

Hummmm....
On another forum one guy had this to say......
Re: 98 Coutour tranny codes... and Exhaust Codes??

<!-- message --> p0708 code is your mlps or tr sensor - the parts shop will call a neutral safety switch. the usual problem is water or corrosion in the terminals of the plug but it could be the sensor itself. the sensor is located right behind the shift cable and lever on the tranny - drivers side. there is a big wiring harness going to it. i suggest first cleaning the terminals with a qtip and a cleaner, and then make sure the sensor is lined up correctly - there is a line on it which needs to be lined up when the trans is in neutral. if that doesnt fix it replace the sensor.
I think it's a good place to start. I'm gonna have a look tomorrow eve.
Thanks All

So the thing with mlps sensor is it needs to be plugged in
I had a look last night and the plug was on but was snapped in tight!!!!!! No joke, I pulled it out had a look and pushed er' back in til it clicked, hopped in started it up, no blinking O/D light.
Took it around the block, smooth as smooth can be!!!!!
Awsome, I didn't wanna send it to the trans shop.
Hey all thanks for the help!!!!
