california emmisions 6.0's

I just bought my first diesel 'o6 f250 SD 4x4 I was heasitant at first but I figured ford had all bugs worked out. so far I love my truck just turned 10k miles. anyway I was talking with a buddy of mine that has an 03 6.0 and he has had several problems with it but recently he was told by his mech that most problems from 6.0's come from california emmision trucks . just courious if this seems to be true.

my undrestanding from a diesel is that if it is tuned properly diesels dont really pollute except for soot is this a true statement.

Hmmm....most companies no longer make a 49 state and a Cali motor, but now make a 50 state motor. I suspect this is the same for the 6.0, however, can anyone say? I too have a Cali motor.

Diesels have much better burning efficiency, than gasoline engines, so less fuel by-products end in the exhaust, or need to be after-burned in catalytic converter.
However each engine will pass some poisons, that are in the fuel to start with.
In US we still have diesel fuel poisoned with sulfurs and although Europe changed that about decade ago, upgrading the fuel in US is delayed for years.

6.0's went 50 state emissions in '05- before that there were 48 state and Cal/NY versions.
