Well I am moving on the 65 to get it road worthy. I was wondering if anyone in Hampton Roads has had good luck with any shops replacing kingpins. I am removing the old and buying new, but apparently you need a kinping reamer to make the new pins fit the joint correctly. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

 

No info on local shops, but I'll ask my dad if he still has his reamer from his old '74 E-100

 

Call Berts Alignment in Virginia beach & see if he can help. Also, maybe Gregory's Fleet Supply in Va Beach on Cleveland Street, ask for the machine shop. Let me know what you find.

 

OK I beat on one of those kinpins today, heated it up, and beat on it some more. I didn't move it at all. I might have to check out one of those hydralic presses at harbor freight.

 

That stinks. . .just out of curiosity, I wonder how hard it would be to retro fit an 80+ ball joint front end into your truck? I mean the radius arms and beams are close to the same length. . .

Just checking, did you take the retaining bolt out??? It has been left in before. I know some of the kps get really frozen. I have been checking around for a reamer, the best are an adjustable one so the fit can be "fine tuned". Very pricey..got spoiled going a mile down the road to borrow my neighbors' set.

 

So far it seems to be "no-go" on the reamer

 

Well no luck so far. Hopefully I will pick up a press some time this week to help out the situation. I did get the retaining pin out, although it did kick my butt at first.

Just have to say thank you for recommending bert's alignment. Had me in and out in less than an hour. Incredibly nice guy, I will be going back there for the final alignment. If I weren't stuck at work all night I would get some pictures posted for everyone to see.

For what it's worth, I have a king pin press and reamer that works on the 100-150 king pins (.875"). The press will do bigger ones, I did Sonny's Towing's GMC 3500HD with it.
