Question. Do you think that if we get enough to sign a petition that we could get the smog exempt law back. Why should me and you that were waiting so we could trick our trucks have to settle for what Aronald wants. This is B.S.
I will stand in front of what ever store to get signature. If we get beat ,what the he--.We tryed.
I know NOTHING about this,But nothing venture,Nothing gained

Don, I lucked out with my last truck, which was a 73 F250. Then, I replaced it with a 74 that was in better condition. Bought it after they raised the excemption year. Now that Gray tossed the grenade in the room on the way out of the door, I think I will keep the 74 for a long long time. If I was going to buy another truck, it sure would be one that is already excempt.
If I was you, I think I would sell off and buy an earlier model. That would take alot less energy than trying to fight the system in place now. In my opinion, you would be alot better off and still have the time to spend on wrenching on your truck instead of picketing and petitioning.
I must say though that I do appreciate your spirit!
Sometimes though, it seems it is best to choose your fights, and choose the ones where you can make a difference.
What year and model truck do you have by the way? Maybe there is someone here who can help you with the visual inspection. Maybe some parts that you need or???

I used the visual as a example. My truck is a 77 that is going through a valve job know.Hi H.C. This I don't have a problem with.It should be fixed. The problem I have is that, If I can make my truck have the same or less polents with BETTER M.P.G.and more power what is the problem. It is not factory.
If I would have known this when I bought my truck I would have bought a 75.
I have too much to stop know with a rebuilt 351m and rebuilt front end GeerVender overdrive and Flow Masters. This motor has 25,000 and a burnt valve.Haveing the Heads off I could have put in a r.v. cam with a little more work. This would help pulling my 5th wheel, But I bet it wouldn't have pass. How about a 4 valve carb.I had to explan why I changed to crome valve covers.
I am by NO means a Hot Roder.Just would like it better, and you can't beat the looks of these truck.
I think your right. It is just something I am going to have to put up with.
Thanks for lessaning<<(spelling ?) Don

Don I do agree with you on improving a vehicle and being penilized for it. I don't have that problem as my resto is a 65 Ford. But if it had to pass smog it wouldn't because of modifications such as 4v carb electronic ignition and headers. I have also changed the rearend ratio and have improved the mileage from 9 mpg to 16 mpg so you know it pumps out less smog.

The 30-year rolling exemption was repealed 4-1-05, so vehicles '75 and older are exempt; for now.
If Grey Davis did sign it into law, it's unfortunate the grabanator didn't ammend it.
There's some female politician somewhere south of here who's pondering the possibilty of even repealling that exemption.

RDON, as for trying to have that smog law repealed, not going to happen.
They did, however, have the bi-annual smog check law in Colorado, but the voters voted it out; but Co. also has a very small population of just over 4 million; where as the population here in Ca. is just around 34 million. More cars, more smog.
Not going to happen, but if you get a petition going, I will definitely sign it.

[QUOTE=Craig5_12]I plan on getting around this smog law by taking my '65 sheet metal and putting it on a later model '70's frame. Something to think about...... QUOTE]
I don't know why you would want to upgrade your frame - everything you may want from a later model (like power steering and power disk brakes) will bolt up to the frame you have.
Why don't you start a new thread and tell us what you want to do with your truck? We have enough members in the Sacramento area that would be willing to help you over the rough parts of such a project - and many members statewide who can make suggestions.
For instance, you mention in your gallery a rattle can paint job, likely to make the truck all one color. That becomes rather expensive, and is very hard to make it look good. On the other hand, I have a spray outfit and could come down on a weekend and spay a basic home-depot type industrial enamel paint on your truck.
Not a forever paint job, but good enough for a daily driver to look ok while you fix it up, and keep your wife and neighbors from complaining when you park the truck on the street.
Also, I noticed that you have yet to join the chapter - why don't you? Just click on the link in my signature.
