ditto that! Click the image to open in full size.
I cant believe the bull just getting parts up here. I sure would like to know the answer to your question also. I dont mind paying the Postage fees up here, they're pretty cheap and quick too.

Dealford is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Here's one...

It'll open on the FE parts page... http://www.amotion.com/ffe.html

Two places I get my parts from are through Keystone (special order) at Canadian Tire, you just have to know the part numbers so you don't over tax the kid behind the counter. The other place I order from is MOPAC out West, a large Speed Shop chain which usually is better price wise than buying South of the border, plus no PST and shipping is reasonable.

Anything you purchase in Canada was brought in from the states.

We don't pay duty on items MADE in the US,only those that went thru the US from somewhere else except Mexico.
You are still paying the exchange rate of the item

We still pay GST on some Items (when your item is delivered).

What kills me is the shipping rates,Courier fees & Brokerage fees.

At least with items that are expedited thru the mail all those charges are included.

This is where we could save money:
Getting your item thru the regular weekly shipment as opposed to special order items from a company that doesn't have regular orders all the time.

That link posted by Dealford is only for engine parts.

IMO, you are best ordering from a FTE sponsor as they are aware of Canadian purchases.

What parts were you looking to buy ?

'Anything you purchase in Canada was brought in from the states.'

Not really, as most aftermarket stuff comes directly from China now. Just head to your local CarQuest or any other type of smaller AutoParts dealer in the GTA. The Chinese don't make everything ... yet ... but they will. All they need to do is get the original over there and make the knock-off ... The pacific rim does not have much respect for patents or intellectual rights.

Common parts such as brake rotors & drums are only about $25. Premium brake pads/shoes are $30-35. The market is being flooded with cheap asian replacement parts. Even Magna is having $$$ trouble competing and they are anti union just like the asian car manufactures.

You will pay both GST & PST plus a brokerage fee [% of the total deemed value{not duty} if you use UPS] which can really sour a deal. When I order anything from the US I insist it be sent VIA Post office as their brokerage fee is only a $5.00 flat fee unless the item is sent priority courier and then the brokerage fees go up to $8.00 ... FLAT!

Customs is another issue

I would love to know how Customs comes up with their deemed value

It is usually written on the Customs declaration the company fills out.

Exclamation

'I would love to know how Customs comes up with their deemed value'

I had a water filter sent from California. I paid $108 for a six stage RO. It was declared as $108 US by the US sender. Customs decided It was worth much more and deemed its value @ $200 cd.

I had to appeal Canada Customs and show Visa receipts to stop paying the additional taxes owing for the extra $75 cd value Customs unilaterally applied.

Glad I had the purchase receipts ... Even though it was only the GST and PST due on the extra $75 it became a matter of principle.

I have another scary story regarding the return of a defective product to the US ....When it was replaced/repaired I was charged taxes again ... upon its return ... Go figureClick the image to open in full size.

Land Of The Tax

As a canadian I expect to pay tax on the money I make and on the money I spend. I don't feel like a patriot unless I pay tax at least twice, sometimes I even send the government money just because. lol

ok bact to the point I usually get parts at my local 'Part Source' they'e owned by CTC but they quoted me half the price for the same struts for my car. Since then I get most of my parts there. I'm also on a first name basis with the staff.

We need more places for performance parts near ottawa, My SkyJacker suspension came from New Orleans just after the tornado through a Toronto Shop. (Tornado went through New Orleans, not the shop)

The guys at my NAPA (UAP) store are great too. I bought a part for my brothers Tempo and they kidded me about buying parts fo '90s vehicles. Usually its my '76 or the '64. I think they enjoy walking away from the computer and getting the big book off the shelf!

Most jobbers can get you just about anything if they go to the trouble. If you find a store that doesn't mind spending more than 30 seconds with you to get your cash, stick with them. To me, it's all about customer service!
