points to electronic ignition on 360/390
I want to install a new dristributor in my 390. I'm tired of buying setting and playing with points. Can anyone give me a suggestion what to do? I'm convinced that my distributor assembly is on its last leggs. The cam has seen better days (stock) I want to buy a whole new assembly.
Also, if I buy a new asssembly ie. Mallory can I swap it between a 360 and a 390? I have one of each and the stock distributors look identical.
Got stopped by the local police this morning. The officer said I dont see you wearing your seatbelt, going to have to give you a ticket. Of course I had it on, I had to explain that a '67 only had lapbelts. He gave me a bit of a hard time about it. You dont see too many '67 vehicles here in upstate NY

If your stock distributor is in good shape, meaning that there is no side to side "slop" when you wiggle it, then all you have to do is install a conversion kit. Lots of these fellas run the Pertronix kit. You can find it through JC Whitney, eBay- almost anywhere if you just search for it on the web. It fits entirely under your distributor cap and is far less expensive thatn buying a Mallory unit. I run a setup put out by Crane Cams. It's a kit like the Pertronix but it has an external box you mount to your fender well that may be about 4.5"x3.5". It's supposed to allow a hotter spark than the Pertronix- depending on your choice of coils.
YES- the distributors on a 360 & 390 interchange. Every part does except crank, rods, piston, and harmonic balancer. I don't think the timing set will interchange either.
As for that peace officer that stopped you- you think he might have been a rookie in need of a little enlightenment? NO OFFENSE TO ANY OF AMERICA'S PEACE OFFICERS. That has happened to me here in Texas by several young fellas fresh to the force!
