I have a 195 in my 72 F100 with a 390, it does alright in cooler weather runs about 200. But in the summer it runs right at 212 or more depending how much it idles. Does anyone put in a cooler thermostat for the summer and if so which one?

run a 160 in my 69 360. stays around 170-180 in the 90 deg weather we've had. did end up putting in a new rad. flex fan and water pump to get it there.

 

I use a 180 in everything.

 

I run a 180 allthe time. I have a new radiator and a new flowkooler water pump from summitt. In my 70 4x4 it stays at 180 when pulling a hill or idling and the temps here have been low 100 and high 90.

 

If you are running at 212° something is amiss. I would guess you have radiator problems. I am using a 195° thermostat.

I run a 195 year round. I have no problems in Nebraska summers in my '68 F100 390.

 

195 all year long with no problems running empty, hauling a ten foot camper or towing everything under the sun.

205 degrees in all of them, both trucks, wifes car, sons truck.....why would you want to run anything else ? I have never understood the 'runs cooler' fasination that some folks seem to have. DF

 

180º works great in Hot Houston.

 

180 here, and engine hits the middle of the temp guage and never budges, even in 105deg temperatures in stop and go traffic.
