I have a chance to get an 05 engine 4.6 romeo for my 01 4.6 romeo. Has anyone every done a swap similar with an 04 and newer. One Junkyard said 01- 05 are the same another is telling me 01-02 are the same and then 03-05 you have to change some things. Does anyone know what needs to be changed. I am sure someone has done a swap that can help me out before I buy this 05. THanks

I have never studied a swap like you're talking about but I'd guess that the basic engine is the same but you'll have to swap manifolds, sensors, wiring etc.
Anyone know for sure?

the engines are the same but the harness sensors and manifold are different. the 05 is DBW the 01 is cable operated.

 

I would use all of the external bolt on's such as front drive assemblies, intake and exhaust manifolds, and sensors from the old engine. The 05 has a different frame and wiring. Just use the 05 long block as long as it doesn't have variable cam timing. If it does, then it wont work.
