1994 vs 1997 powerstroke updates? & crew cab rarity
I just traded my 1994 ext cab long bed f250 4x4 powerstroke for a 1997 crew cab short box F250 4x4 powerstroke. Both trucks have the 5 speed transmission. It seems that the 1997 has more power then my 94 had. I am just curious what all Ford did to update these trucks between these years. Also just curious how rare are these crew cab short boxs with five speeds, 4x4, diesel, and xlt package. I looked for over a year befor I found mine but am curious as to just how rare they are?

I looked a long time for my 96 cc sb 4x4 5spd. They are rare. You can usally find a few CC shorties but a good number of them are auto's. the 5spd in that style are few and far between. And for me its seemed if I did find one it was beat and abused. As far as differences, their isn't much besides programming. My 94 has a metal radiator while the 96 's is plastic.

I looked for a few months before finding my configuration.
Crew Cab
5-Speed
XLT
Oxford White
Limited Slip diff (3.55) was prefered due to mpg.
4x4
Long Bed!
I had a difficult search!!! Most of these options were hard to find much less all of them in one truck.
I ended up finding every thing I wanted except for 4x4. In the end this was ok because it turned into more of a traveling truck and maximum mpg would be best.
OBS Crew Cabs from what I have were rare, when I found one it ended up being a short bed auto.
Ill tell you this though... At first I though having a 20 ft long truck would take a little getting use too but I would never go back.

yep its sure was hard to find mine. I was looking for the crew cab short box with five speed trans, 4x4, grey interier, manual hubs, white exterier, 3:55 rear end. electric merrors, 130,000 or less. And in good clean condition. Seems I could always find a white one but it was either beat up, had a 460, to many miles or had an auto trans. I had long ago gave up on finding one with a 5 speed cause I had never seen them any were. You can bet that I was pretty suprised to find one just 1 hour from home that had all the options I wanted was the right color (white) and was clean and had 130,000 miles. with a five speed no less! The only thing that I did not like was that it had auto locking hubs, but now I think I like them so, now we'll see if we can get 300,000 miles out of this rare truck!

I got a 1997 F-350 psd 5-speed Crew cab 4x4 xlt for 8000.00 last year. I have only seen a few other 5 speed crewcab truck like it before. It had 172,000 on it. I just put a new tranny and solid flywheel conversion it 3 weeks ago. I love the truck but it takes a big parking lot to turn around. It was setup with a steel flat with the hidden goosneck hitch
and a nice airbag setup on the rear.
