Need some help from Iowa
Where is everyone? Anyhow, I'm Joe, and I am a member over in the NW chapter. I have a truck sitting in you neck of the woods. It's a 53 Ford F-750 fire truck. I need help getting it to Redmond, Oregon. It is located in Miles, Iowa. Here's what's going on. A bunch of the guys over in the 48-60 forum are waving flags of support in a relay race idea. What it boils down to is, I need someone to go pick it up, and do some inspecting, and possibly some minor roadworthiness repairs. I can send some money, and or parts needed to who ever the pick up and repair guy/gal(s) maybe. I'll even send the very loud and very cool siren I have for it (it's way cool). So the general hope is that we can get enough willing members together to get this old gal, and drive for 50 to 100 miles or so, and pass it along to the next guy or gal in the race, and eventually make it to either western Idaho, or Eastern Oregon where I can meet whoever and pick it up. I am thinking on sending a few disposable cameras as well, so that everyone willing to participate can take some photos of their part of the journey, and I when I get a hold of her, i will have them developed for the entire site to enjoy. The draw back is that I would not be able to send a wad of cash for every one to put fuel in it. I guess basically, it would come down to each of the drivers pitching in their own $20-$50 for their leg of the trip. The total run is 1908 miles according to mapquest. You can see the truck in my gallery if you are interested, and the response thread is either the "what to do?" or "any truck moving volunteers" in the 48-60 forum section.

If I had to guess, I would think I was safe at no more than 9500#. As to the cost of fuel, why do think I am trying to get it moved now rather than in a few months when fuel is double its current outrageous cost. Seriously though, I've been checking on delivery, and they are wanting more than twice what it would cost to fly there and drive it back. That's why some of were talking about a relay type system. Truth is, I would like to get a list of contributors along the way, so that I can send a reimbursement or two every two weeks until payed back, starting with the pick up person, and moving towards home, until everyone involved was payed back. I've been giving this idea some extensive thought, and it would actually be the least expensive way to move the truck.

Well if the truck gets about 3 miles a gallon its probable gonna run ya about 2 grand in gas. um Depending on if I get a raise or not I might be able to run down there help. on a different note it would cost me probably $30 to get down there & back so maybe if you want I could donate it to your cause. If got enough people to donate a little money and find an owner operator that in in iowa at the time you might be able to pull it off. That way theres insurance on it too. just idea though. I was just talking with a Freind of mine that hauls flat bed loads out of Elk Run Hts.,Ia. He told me it more like at least $2.00 a mile but if there are hauling somthing else out with it it would cheapin up the cost. no wonder oil companies are so rich. Theres atleast a 85 cent jump a mile for the fuel.

Here's the link to the new thread, so we can all get organized and figure it out from there. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...46#post3627546

OK guys and gals. I've e-mailed St Judes, and Make-A-Wish. It's on, start posting in the other thread, and let's get this show on the road. Any one got a tandem axle goose neck that monster baby can borrow, just in case the truck won't make it to his place, or I can't get the insurance and tags to him in time?
