Actual E85 Mileage?

Actual E85 Mileage?
Hi there... I know that in states where E85 is available, it is selling at about a 15% discount to regular unleaded gasoline (some datapoints withstanding). My question is - what are people actually getting in MPG when running E85 and how does it compare to your MGP on standard unleaded?
I am interested to know if the MPG hit is less than the 15% savings for E85?
If you have the time, please include Engine, Cab Size, Bed Size and MPG for both E85 and standard gas.
Thanks all!

I have heard it is a 10-15% reduction in milage, but a 5% increase in power. I read it on

nebraska, i saw that as well... my concern is that the e85fuel site is obviously 'pro-ethanol' and my second concern is if that 10-15% is like 15-19 on my MPH on the window sticker when i bought my F150
i would love to hear from an actual owner what they are getting - although i will know for myself in October, when I go scare some birds with a shotgun

Nope Ethanol does not increase HP but decreases it about 10% on regular vehicles, along with mileage drop of 10 to 15%. Ethanol has less energy content than gasoline! E85 also has a much higher octane (ranging from 100 to 105) than gasoline. So unless the spark curve and fuel curve are adjusted to use ethanol blend you will loose power and not gain power! The only way you may gain HP is if you have a Flex Fuel specd vehicle that may have the capability to adjust the curves based on fuel content! Non FF vehicles will not see any gain whatsoever, we will see nothing but a loss!

KevinM are you talking about the ethonal avaliable for all vehicles (10% Ethanol)? The E85 is 85% ethanol and only 15% gas. It can only be ran in FFV vehicles designed for it (according to the web site). I have the FFV 5.4 F150 and have yet to find it and try it, but when I get the chance I will post my results!
