Does it change with vehicle speed or engine speed?

Sounds like an exhaust leak to me. Probably the doughnut gasket or else the manifold gasket. Acceleration is when you hear these problems the most. Sometimes that is the only time a small leak is noticeablemat all.

yes, the noise does speed up when the engine does. would it be form a hair line crack in the right exhust manifold?

If it's got a dark area around there, that might be it. If it's just a clean crack, then it's probably just on the surface. A manifold to head gasket is more likely for a ticking noise. Look around for a black streak, that's where the leak is.

Absolutely! If the manifold crack is a known fact then that is definitly what you are hearing. No worries! Get to it when you have the time and $$.

Also, check your U-joints. After you drive the truck, slide underneath and feel the U-joints. If they're hot, they're shot.

Perhaps your engine is pinging. Try a tankful of high octane and see if it makes a difference. If you notice a difference, a tune-up is needed.

Could be a fuel pump problem, make sure it is bolted down tightly.
