Trans slipping 1st gear

I have a 97 150 with a 6 cyl auto. 124k on it. The trans started minorly slipping upon takeoff in 1st gear. All other gears shift fine. There has never been a fluid/filter job done on it and I am curious if this may be the problem or if it may be something more serious like a shift module. Can the fluid & filter be done @ home if I try to do this?? Thanks

My Buddy had the same problem with his 97 V6 F-150. Took it to a tranny shop, they ended up replacing some sort of solinoid for $200. Worked great for a while (2 weeks) then it started all over again. The funny thing was, he could drop it to 2nd from a stop, and it shifted perfectley. He took it back to the tranny shop, and of course they wanted to rebuild it then.He opted it out, it was a dump run truck, and he shifts it to 2nd at a stop, then to drive. I hope you figure it out.We did all of the fluid and filter change with no luck.Id change it first, it takes a couple of hours, every problem is different.

I changed fluid and filter today and it seemed to help for about 20 miles, now it sits in front of my house and will not move forward at all. Seems like when I put it in drive,2nd,or first, it is stuck in neutral. Could it be possibly a shift module?

I'd check and make sure it was full. It takes a lot of fluid, what fluid did you use? Check this thread out, and see if it helps.

I think i will give that a try, if that doesn't work I guess I have no choice but to drop it and put a different one in.

Let me know how it turns out. Beats going to the tranny shop and getting nailed for two grand or more.

Go to the top of the page, select ARTICLES/SPECS, follow that, there is a section on codes and decoders that inludes the definitions for the door jamb stickers.
