What oil? '72 360

I have a 72 F100 with an original 360. It looks as if it has never been rebuilt. What oil was originally recommended by Ford? What oil do you Recommend?

I live in South Central Texas and it's very hot.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Aug-02 AT 04:05 PM (EST)]I tried a few different things. The best for me oil pressure and general performance wise is 1 bottle Lucas oil and about 4 quarts Valvoline SAE30. It keeps the oil pressure up and since I started using the lucas, the truck uses a lot less oil too. Its a 69 360. I also noticed that when I used off brand oil, it made a huge impact on my oil pressure.

I live in OK, not quite as hot...

SAE 30 should have been the recommended weight. 10W30 would be a good selection to use today. IMHO

10W30 sounds perfect. Look for at least an SJ API rating.

Beware of snake oil products. Modern oils are designed to pass a series of stringent tests. Pouring in an additive may dilute and disturb that balance and make one property better while making others worse.

I know my truck didn't like 10w30 or 10W40, it used more oil and had lower oil pressure than it does with the Lucas and SAE30. I don't believe my engine has ever been rebuild either.

I guess if your engine is worn and seals are leaking badly, a thicker oil will help. I had a Chevy S10 with the notoriously bad rear-main seal. I ran 20W-50 in the summer to slow the leakage and 5W-30 Mobil 1 in the winter (back in Minnesota) to make sure it started.
