How to tell what flat head I have?
We picked up an old ford Flat head at an Auction for 30.00, It turns, but after opening it up, One Piston head is burnt off, and there was a live roach in another cylinder (Guess we will have to work the bugs out off it) Any imout on how to identify what engine this might be and what it is out off?

Also a quick method to narrow the ballpark, does it have a bellhousing cast on the block, or is the back of the block flat pretty much right behind the heads? If no bellhousing cast in, it will be a 49-53 era block. Also if the head's thermostat housings are on the top front of each head would be 49-53, if they are center top of the heads would be a 48 and earlier block (assuming someone didn't put earlier heads on a later block).
