MLP trouble code 634

MLP trouble code 634
1990 F-150, 4.9, I believe E4OD. Trouble code 634 manual lever position sensor on the side of the trans.
My question is how to adjust the MLP because my Haynes manual instructions are not very clear (at least to me). It states Raise vehicle, Check the linkage, put in neutral, loosen the 2 retaining bolts, and.................
"Using the MLPS adjusting tool (Ford # T89T-70010-J, or equivalent) position MLPS and tighten the retaining bolts securely".
I do not have the tool. The illustration looks like about a 90 degree setting. Position the MLPS? Off what setting?
I think I read somewhere here that Ford had a newer upgrade for this part? I have checked Ford recall site and does not apply.
Truck shifts perfectly, so I need some help.

Cancel this request,
I hope I figured this out. Got under the truck and cleaned the dirt off the MLPS and saw the alignment hash marks. They were so close, I don't see how I got an error code. Anyway, I loosened the bolts, set it dead on, tightened the bolts, reset the codes and drove the truck. Code did not return after a 2 mile drive. I will keep my fingers crossed.
