Replacing ignition switch

Replacing ignition switch
I have a 89 Bronco II with auto, and auto hubs. I need to replace the ignition switch. Besides the steering wheel, and big round column plastic after that, what other panels do I need to take off to remove the switch? Chiltons is not too clear. What screws do I take off??? Any pictures?

Look on the underside of the steering column & you will see a see a small hole.
Turn the key to run & shove a small dril bit or pin punch into that hole & pull the lock cylinder out.
The new one just pushes in and clicks into place.
Edit What you are doing with the drill bit or whatever you use is pushing against a spring loaded pin.

How do you remove switch
I could find no pin holes on the outer steering shroud on my 89. Removed the upper & lower shrouds, and dash pannel under the steering column. Not fun. Could not find how to release the switch/lock. No visible outer pin hole. Also my original has a 12 inch wire & the part I bought had only a 6 inch wire lead.I can splice in a longer wire but how do you get the switch out?????

Well that is VERY strange.
I dug out my Haynes & heres what it sez: "Turn the key to the run position, insert a small screwdriver into the lock cylinder housing and release the actuator pin while pulling out on the switch."
If you have the correct new lock cylinder, it will have a spring loaded pin on the side of it, thats the pin that you have to push out of the way on the old cylinder.

Take the new lock, turn the key back and forth and you will see where the pin is that you have to push in on the old lock. Looking at the lock, it should be facing you on the side of the lock near the back if memory serves me correctly.
All you have to do is remove the upper shroud. I do not remember ever having to loosen the lower one. If you have tilt wheel you may have to figet with the column a little to get the angle to pull the upper shroud off.
The wire is for the key in the ignition buzzer since yours is not lighted. You can just leave it disconnected or do a good job splicing it in.

That nub on the bottom left hand side is the pin you have to push in.
