Axle changes on 71 F250 Highboy 4x4
Hey fellas I have a few of questions for yall. On the front, I am wanting to convert to the front dana 60 from the dana 44. How can I visually tell the differnce between the two by looking at them under the truck and will the 4.09 gears out of my dana 44 go into the dana 60? I will probably go for disc brakes too, will a prop. valve on any disc/drum truck work or does it need to be a F250 4x4? Now for the rear. I have a dana 60(I think) 4.10. I have a 85 F350 with a LS 4.10 that is a dana but I'm not sure what size, its just has thicker axle shafts housings than the dana 60. My question is will the 85 rear end bolt up w/o to much mods. besides from the narrow frame on the 71. I know this is long but I'm wanting to get as much info as I can before I tear into it. Thanks for you help.

The dana 60 is noticeably larger than the 44. As you look at the diff. cover, the nos. 44 or 60 will be stamped on the housing in the upper right flange support area (about 2:00) on the pumpkin. I think the dana 70 is the same size as the 60, but with stronger internals, and maybe even the axle tubes.
