updraft carb

updraft carb
I've tried everything. I have a generator with a flathead inline 6 Lincoln. 40's or 50's era. Haven't used it for years, now I remember why. In the last week, I've rebuilt the carb 4 times. I can get it to idle smooth at 3/4 choke, but when I open the throttle it dies.
I've treid plugging the PCV valve and it helped...a little.
It has a single barrel updraft. There is an adjustment screw on top and one on the bottom. They both work and effect the engine, but I have no idea where to preset them. I also don't know which I should adjust for low speed or high speed. or if one is just air and one fuel.
Any ideas?

The lower adjustment is the high speed I would try opening that about two turns
then open the throttle and if if runs adjust it out to where the engine
loads up with fuel back in until it begins too starve for fuel and then back
to halfway in between. The upper adjustment is for smooth idle.
