tow boss vs rpm
Im still in the market for a F2-350 with the tow boss package, it states it has 4:30 gear with a limited slip which is cool but im wondering about the rpms. I plugged in the tires size, gear, rpm and trans ratios and the computer says it should be about:
2000 rpms at 61mph, 2200 rpms is 67mph, 2400 rpms at 74mph
2600 rpms is 80mph 2800 rpms is 86mph 3000 rpms is 92mph
Now i run 80-85 mph on the free way, ( speed limits are 70-75mph) Now i know that 2500 -3000 rpms is not a lot on a car or truck that is non diesel, but considering a diesel revvs much lower (4250 redline) would it not be hard on the motor, turbo to be spinning 2800-3000 rpms for hours on end?
Thanks
Shawn.

I have the towboss on my F350, and your numbers are close (a bit higher than I'm seeing on my tach by about 200rpms for those speeds).
I don't think that 3000rpm would be a big deal for this motor...it seems to run pretty smoothly. I hit 3500rpms regularly when shifting in town, and the motor does not feel strained at all.
I think you'll be fine other than milage issues...if I keep mine down to 55 I was seeing 19mpg last night (sustained), when I go up to 75 that drops to 16. I would imagine that 85 would be in the 12-13 range.
Hope that helps...
