looking at a smashed up V-10

hey guys need your opinion.
about 9 moths ago i was in the market for a new truck and i found a 99 ext. cab 4x4 V-10. the truck had been crashed badly. the bed was fine no damage and the passangers door had a dent in it. but the front bumper side pannels and frong clip were gone, the hood can be saved. so i was like well nothing money cant fix. so i went underneath and saw that the T-case was smashed and the oil filter ripped off. i could not tell if the fram was bent or not.
so i went in and asked the guy what he wanted for it. he said 4k takes it home. so is it worth it? whats it going to take to get this truck on the road and looking good again???
ohh ya since i did not buy that truck i bought a 95 PSD crew cab dually. and the only reason i want to buy this truck is for the 4WD. the new PSD is only 2WD.

so any advice would be awsome. thanks guys!!!!
Mitch

Doesn't sound good to me. But i haven't delt with later model salvage vehicles. Odds are tho with the T-Case being smashed i would think the frame would be bent not knowing what type of crash the truck was in. And you dont know how long the engine ran with out that oil filter. The V-10 i blew up while test driving an Ex didn't last to long when i went up the hill and it became starved for oil.

mechanics advise

run the other way. the new motors can not handle oil loose at all. and the smashed t case well that costs almost what the guy wants for the wreak. again run away from it.

I wouldn't recommend buying it. The amount of money it would take to get it drivable you could probably take that money and put it towards possibly the same year truck with 4WD and just get in it and drive it. Plus if the truck is smashed up that bad does it have a salvage title? If it does have a salvage title come selling time if you were to sell it, you might have a hard time off loading it. Just my thought.

If you bought that truck you might not be able to use half of the parts you think might be ok to use. Then sinking a bunch of money to get everything you did install to work right. after all the work pain and blood you will have a big pile of parts, twisted truck that you will have to try and get rid of. To quote the film "Run Forest Run!!!"

If you do deside to get the truck good luck and hope it works out. It's a big project and you might enjoy it. But it's not going to save you any money

If you could get it for $500 and needed spare parts for a perfectly fine truck, I'd say get it.

Did the transfer case get "smashed" because of the front-end shock, or was the truck driven over something that killed the transfer case? Just curious, I concur with everyone else. Don't consider it for a daily driver ... or any drivable truck. You'd need so many parts for it, you'd be buying another truck from a junkyard. At which point, you'd be back to square one again because it would have to have SOMETHING wrong with it to be in a junkyard.
