I have a 53 f100 which I have had for 30 years and it has the 3/8" fender alignment rods running from the top of the firewall to the corner of the front hood latch panel near the front fenders. I bought a 56 f100 last year, and it has a misalignment of the hood and front fenders. In looking to resolve this issue I noticed the lack of these rods and the front mounting brackets on the 56. My question is this. Are they supposed to be on the truck and maybe removed by a previous owner or were they not a part of a 56? The mounting holes on the firewall are there. If someone can share some insight on this it would be appreciated.

My '56 F-100 has them. I would guess someone removed them. I've seen people run without them, but I don't know how they keep their sheet metal in line

Hell I thought they were there to allow you to dry you laundry qicker on rainy days. So that is what they are for?
