Question What goes first? starter or alternator

Im into preventative maintenance...basically becasue i cant stand to see something break on my truck, and i dont feel like getting stranded somewhere, I like it running perfect.
Anyway, as im approaching 100k miles, i want to know what will go first, my starter or my alternator, and around mileage are we seeing.
Let me know your thoughts..... thanks.

Put an alternator on my 97 at 110K. It still has the factory starter on it.

USUALLY, the alternator will go first, but if you replace it with a "lifetime warranty" unit from one of the national chain stores you are not doing your vehicle any favors.

Rebuild

I feel exactly the same way---in my area we are fortunate in that we have a small local rebuilder that will rebuild your starter/alternator at a very reasonable price---and he does good work and stands behind it. He is in Kenosha, WI---has one day turn around time. Let me know if anyone would like address/phone---they will ship---even with rebuild and shipping you will have less into it than aftermarket.

I have had very poor luck with aftermarket new or rebuilds; you just don't know what they came out of or in what condition. Last time he rebuilt a starter for me it was $60 or so. It's all they do---Kenosha Starter and Alternator is the name. No, I'm not related to them! But they have done many of my starters and alternators over the yrs.

Hope others let us know which one to rebuild first---I'm at 72K and will want to think about this at 100K. So far sounds like the starters hold up longer than the alternators???
