Exclamation Need some help from Nebraska

Where is everyone? Anyhow, I'm Joe, and I am a member over in the NW chapter. I have a truck sitting in Iowa. It's a 53 Ford F-750 fire truck. I need help getting it to Redmond, Oregon. It is located in Miles, Iowa. Here's what's going on. A bunch of the guys over in the 48-60 forum are waving flags of support in a relay race idea. What it boils down to is, I need someone to go pick it up, and do some inspecting, and possibly some minor roadworthiness repairs. I can send some money, and or parts needed to who ever the pick up and repair guy/gal(s) maybe. I'll even send the very loud and very cool siren I have for it (it's way cool). So the general hope is that we can get enough willing members together to get this old gal, and drive for 50 to 100 miles or so, and pass it along to the next guy or gal in the race, and eventually make it to either western Idaho, or Eastern Oregon where I can meet whoever and pick it up. I am thinking on sending a few disposable cameras as well, so that everyone willing to participate can take some photos of their part of the journey, and I when I get a hold of her, i will have them developed for the entire site to enjoy. The draw back is that I would not be able to send a wad of cash for every one to put fuel in it. I guess basically, it would come down to each of the drivers pitching in their own $20-$50 for their leg of the trip. The total run is 1908 miles according to mapquest. You can see the truck in my gallery if you are interested, and the response thread is either the "what to do?" or "any truck moving volunteers" in the 48-60 forum section.

Hey, there are some guys in the Iowa chapter in that area, I'm going to link it over there and see if they could help you out. Wish I could be more help, what really kinda sucks is that I am heading for Idaho next week, but don't have any way to do that long a run with it, no way at all to afford it, but could be a pretty cool trip...

I already posted this in all the relevant regions. You know you really do want to go get it (hint hint). You know all the smiles and waves, and thumbs up you'd be getting the whole way. I've got a siren for it, it's loud, and fun to juice up.

If I only had a little more time to work with... have to be here on Friday, then it's off to the west on Monday... depends how long it sits there, I may be ablke to take it a little west into South Dakota, later in May.Can go to Mitchell, SD. Didn't see a posting in the High Plains chapter, a number of members in South Dakota there. Give it a few days, there are a few members in Sioux Falls as well...

If the truck goes through the Sioux City area sign me up for about a hundred or two miles worth of moving it. Does it have a 239 flat head? I may be able to contribute a few small parts and technical know how if necessary. This sounds like a fun adventure.

I'd be willing to help you out. I'm in the Omaha area, let me know what the route may be. I can probably help out in western Iowa area too.

I'm pretty limited on my mechanical skills, just know the bare-bones basics. Don't have any parts for something like that either.

It does sound like a fun adventure!

Miles is over by Spirit lake, so it is close to Sioux City...

I must be lost... but then again, I looked on mapquest, so I shouldn't be surprised. The Miles, IA that mapquest shows is way over in Eastern IA, nortwest of Clinton.

EDIT... Joe mentioned the I-80 route across Nebraska in his post in the 48 - 60 Forum. I sent him a PM.

I looked it up on Yahoo, and that was where it showed it... ok, I just looked it up on an actual map, and you are right... it is closer to me right now... I may be able to help more than I thought... actually, some of the Iowa members are right there...

Hey guys, you are great. I'm starting a list ov volunteers, and I really don't care what route it takes. If it has to venture off the interstate to get another driver, then oh well. So far, I think we've got about 6 potential drivers, including you guys. As to the time frame, I am figuring it will take a few weeks to get enough people, and then it would probably take another week or two to get it organized and all planned out.

Ok, that's good. If we can't organize a full run in one or two weekends, we may be able to take you up on that until a full run is organized. Randy in Iowa says he's not in a hurry to get it off his property. I am interested in getting it into the hands of a fellow FTE member so that minor maintenance or repairs can be made. Randy is not as familiar with these old trucks as most of us are. Also, there is a large tank on it that has been added after its retirement, and if some one along the way is interested, they are welcome to remove it, as long as they do not tear up any of the orignal frame or body work of the fire bed. We can pull this off guys, and I think the trip could make headlines.

If noone is interested in it, I can likely get it off and out of the waythere. Can't say I know those old trucks as much, but I can bet I know a fellow who does, who lives in that area. Close friend of mine.

Sounds good Joe. Keep us posted! That sure is a great old truck, it must be hard for you not to have it at your place.
