Seat belts?
I would like to put a set of modern type, 3-point seat belts in my 71 F100. I was wondering where I can get a set or will a set out of a Ford in the junkyard work? I already confirmed that there is a place to mount the seatbelt guide above the shoulder, or atleast it looks like it was put there for that reason. Any help would be appreciated

Seat belts?
I install seat belts in ford vans all the time. I can get you a set of three point belts, they are expensive though. We pay almost $200 for one belt set up. And we buy a lot of them. They would not be hard to install, you need a large heavy weight threaded washer to but behind the hole( I am assuming you have rubber plugs in the "B" piller). The hard part will be getting the washer into place. If you are serious let me know I will let you know the details.

No washer is needed in these trucks. You use a self tapping bolt to hold in the shoulder strap. There is another thread about this on here. Do a search for it and I am sure all your questions will be answered.

Seat belts?
Anybody know where two of those self tapping bolts
can be had other than the salvage yard. I've already
spent a lot of time at yards around here and all the
bolts I've pulled are the next size up. (for the shoulder
strap) I'd be willing to pay a fair price to save time
especially since I've purchased a new set of belts and
they aren't doing me any good sitting in the box.

Seat belts?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Sep-02 AT 03:07 AM (EST)]>I bought new seatbelts from Andover Auto. Non-adjustable,
>three point, buckles are solid and not plastic junk.
Rebocardo,
That Andover Auto website is pretty cool.
So many choices...
What part number did you get?
Three point?
Did you get them with the retractors?

$20 (2) rb3 shoulder harness reinforcemenmt plate with weldnut
$14.70 S&H&Ins.

Weldnut plates are kind of expensive, but worth it. Weld looks good and plate is heavy.

Rebocardo,
Thanks much! I'm going to try and order a set this week. I don't feel right using just a lap-belt.

P.S., Hey, I noticed that our proper FTE membership status is finally showing up. Glad to be supporting this great site.

Seat belts?
You are welcome.
I am installing my belts (God willing) tomorrow. I am going to secure the plates from inside the pillar with 1/4" grade 8 hardware as soon as I figure out a technique. That way when I want to unbolt the shoulder harness for whatever reason I will not have to deal with getting the plate to remain still.
You might want to order the "clips" for the extra length on the belt adjustments. I figured for the extra $25+ I will try using black velco strips I bought at Autozone for $2. The web site was not clear you might want/need them and I did not realize the loose end might (harmlessly) flap around until I did a dry install with the bolts. Actually a paperclip would do, I just did not want to use anything metal on the belt that might fray it over time.
I want to install and use them for a few weeks before I get into un-neccessary niceities
re:lap only belts
They are better than nothing, but, not by much. Sometimes they cause more injuries than just creating a pumpkin in the windshield because your head goes and hits the metal steering wheel or dash instead of the windshield which is designed to give in some, plus, you get internal injuries from being forced over in two.
After working at bodyshops and dealerships and seeing the grim results of not wearing seatbelts or shoulder harnesses, I wear shoulder harnesses and make anyone driving with me wear them.
I know auto retractors and slack adjusters fail (and laywers on-line are only too happy to back it up) which is why I went with the three point harness non-adjustable.
re:FTE
Yea, cool!
I am going to try ordering more stuff on-line too. Unfortunately the stuff I need worse right now they don't carry, though I am going to jump for the CD-ROM manuals soon.

Seat belts?
Rebocardo...
Do you have any way to shoot some digital pics and post them of the belts, the install, whatever... there are many of us on here that are interested in making this conversion.
Thanks!

I appreicate the info you guys are posting. I've seen the Andover website but I just wasn't sure how to hold the welded nutplates to tighten the bolt. Any suggestions?
I think I'll order a set of the retractable shoulder belts as well as it seems like you are having some success.
Thanks!
