Has anyone tried adding salt to WVO?
I did a test on some crappy looking WVO. I added some water softener salt and let it sit over night. All the crap is now on the bottom and the oil looks great.

The question is does the salt stay in the crap or is there some salt in the WVO.

 

You could probably wash the oil and get the salt out. If there's anymore added by your process. I would think WVO would be full of salt and other crap disolved into it.

why not just heat the oil up and let it cool back down and the crap and water will settle to the bottom

I tested this on WVO that would not clear up with heat. The issue was not the water but the large amount of small particles that hold the water.

After I added the salt and let sit for 20 hours the all the small particles were on the bottom and the oil was clear.

 

I am working on my first 55 gal. drum of WVO that I filtered with 15 micron and moved it to a 55 gal. drum with some salt and baking soda. I plan to let that sit for some time....weeks, then filter 1 micron to final drum and heat, cool, pump from top leaving bottom 1/3.
I have read on Greasecar site that the salt and bs do work.

 

How much salt and backing soda do you use?

 

I used 2 cups of water softner salt and one half cup of BS and mix.
