33/12.5/17 or 285/70/17

I have an 06 SD and am going to keep stock height. Any thoughts on which tire to go with. The 33's or the 285's?

285/70/17. The more important question to ask though is whether to buy 4 tires, or 2 for the front and 2 for the rear. Here's another way to think about it...should you buy a six-pack of beer, or half a dozen?

Sorry, but you're basically asking about a 33" tire or the metric equivalent. I realize the 285/70/17 is a slightly narrower measurement, but typically you'll won't have the opportunity to choose because they are basically the same size and *typically* a manufacturer isn't going to offer a 33x12.5x17 and a 285/70/17, they'll offer one or the other. I like a narrower tire though and *if* they're both offered in the same tire I'd opt for the *slightly* narrower 285/70/17. I meant the above tongue-in-cheek and was meant to be funny, not anything else.

Thanks Ace,

Yes, the Cooper's I am looking at are offered in both sizes and it looks like the 33's are 32.76 inch Dia. and the 285's are 33 inch Dia. The 33's are about an inch wider but slightly shorter. I guess I'll have to look at the wheel offset/backspace ?...to determine which one would look better but like you I am leaning toward the 285's.

Thanks!

Are you looking at the STT's?
I'd probably go with the 285/70s... they have a max load capacity of 3195 vs. the 2600 of the 33x12.50.

I was considering getting them in a 35x12.50 after I put a leveling kit on my '05 F-250.

Yes, I am looking at the STT's. I have heard good things about them. Even though they are pretty agressive they are supposed to be pretty good on the pavement. Thanks for the advice....I haden't thought of the load capacity. Even though they (285's) are a bit narrower I don't think it will be too noticeable?

I went with the 285's because they will fit the stock wheels.
