1999 Expedition Eddie Bauer Only Hot Air
I bought a used 1999 Expedition Eddie Bauer about 2 years ago. It has been a great truck until recently. The A/C system now only has hot air in the front. I can still get cold air in the back.
The truck has the EATC and I ran a diagnostics check and no faults were reported. Additionally, I can pushe the buttons on nthe control module and all the air comes out in the correct positions. The only fault is the lack of cold air.
I have seen bunches of threads about Blend Door failures. I reviewed "lvmilkman2002" thread on the blend door motor. However, on my Expedition when I removed what he detailed it appears to be a blower motor and not a Blend Door Motor. I reviwed the other threads and the actuator that is talked about that you can access from behind the glovebox is also not there.
Where can this actuator be located and how can you check it for operation!!! I am going to attempt this repair this Friday while I have a long holiday weekend.

Took the truck to the dealer for a diagnostic check to ensure what the problem was. He says the blend door and the actuator are both bad. Total cost of the repair is $1080 plus tax!!
I know what I will be doing this Easter Week-end. I have the blend door already but I cannot find the part number for the actuator. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Explorer fix will not work on your Expy. The high cost of the repair is due to having to remove the dash. I believe that when the arm is broken the dash has to come off.

The Ford dealer said they checked out my AC issue when i brought it into them a week or so ago. They said they removed the center console and removed the Blend door actuator and verified it bad. Funny thing is, I removed the center console today. It had obviously NEVER been removed before. The actuator works fine...the door however had little pieces of plastic falling out when i removed the Actuator......
So....five hours later I have the dash removed and the cover off the plenum. 5 minutes later I have the new blend door assy installed and I am back to putting the plenum back together. Total time to complete the task was just under 8 hrs.
Note to you all. If you remove the radio from the dash you DO NOT have to go under the fenderwell and remove the antennae wire!!!!
Take care....

New Question.......My AC now blows cool air instead of warm to hot air...but only when on MAX A/C. When on Norm A/C the air is ok, not hot..not cold. When i checked the low side pressure with gauges after turning the A/C on MAX for about 5 minutes the pressure said it was 65. This is obviously too high!!! Ford had told me the only problem they found when they diagnosed the truck was the blend door and blend door actuator. Any idea what may be causing the high low side reading????

I brought my 97 Expy E/B to my local dealer today and they changed out the orifice tube cost me $15.00. They told me that wasn't my problem, it was the blend door and the actuator...They estimated about $850 for repairs..I am looking to fix this myself, can it be done and if so where can i find these parts...Where is the exact location of the door and actuator.
