Shudder
Hello to Everyone
I have a 1999 F-150 4x4 with 5.4L engine and auto trans. bought new.
About 6 weeks ago I noticed a slight shudder when starting out on a slight turn.
I read several articles on FTE and changed the gear lube and added additive. The old lube was grey in color, not the usual color of "old used lube". The shudder went away for about a week than returned. I now believe I need to change the clutch pack. Can the backyard mechanic do this job or should this be left to the professional in a shop? If the baskyard mechanic can do the job all the information I can get will be greatly appreciated.
THANK YOU

Norton,
I have a 01 super crew 4x4 with 5.4 and mine does the same thing. I bought it as a roll over salvage (repaired) with 58K. It is my first Ford truck and was curious about the same thing. They added the "additive" or at least told me they did. It changed nothing. They said "they all do that and is normal". I have 70K on now and does it still. At 65K I had all the fluids changed, even against the mechanic who said that the fluids were synthetic and not worth it, he changed the rear lube and was clean, no change either. Dunno,!?!?!? I guess they just do it?
Will watch the thread and see if any of the GURU's have some good advice.
