Question for Fellro

I was on the wonderful web and saw a post you made about having one of those..... ***Cough*** "other" motors in your F250. What can you tell me about it? Where did you come up with the CTD and other parts? What was the approximate cost?

Thanks,
Chris

Bought a rollover for $2800, with the Cummins and a gear vendors overdrive. Also, the motor went into my sister's F350, the 460 had seen better days, 227,000 miles, and not real well cared for. Bought the truck for $1800. I fabbed my own motor mounts and tranny mounts, scavenged a lot of the parts, fabricated what I could. I have been told that the gas ZF actually works pretty well with the Cummins, so it may wander back in at a later date, but for now, it has the auto from the Dodge. I kept it such that I can switch back to a manual just because I don't trust the Dodge autobox. I used a shifter from a Tempo, and modified a shifter cover from an Escort. Made the shifter mount with the old shifter screws. The exhaust is from the Dodge as well, had to stretch it 18" as the Dodge was an extended cab, and the F350 is a crew cab.It wasn't exactly a direct fit, but I was able to rework it to do what I wanted, it had some bends for the Dodge in just the right place for the Ford, but 90 degrees off... I got fuel system parts from an 86 F250 that was already heavily stripped, mainly the sender units adn fuel lines, had to buy a new tank switch and figure out how to use the fuel injection harness to be able to swith tanks, used two 4 pole relays to pull that off. I also had to buy a new radiator, just wasn't liking the way it was going for using the Ford rad, as the hoses were on the wrong side, so I refit it for a Dodge rad, and it also allowed me to use the Dodge intercooler without fit problems. Total cost parts wise, probably ran another $750-1000, but I also had some other issues I was dealing with on the truck as well, but starting with nothing, I have a heck of a truck for under $6000.
My F250 is still running on it's 6.9, and not looking to change that any time soon.

Sorry for the mis-understanding about which truck it was. Thanks for the info. That is a dream of mine for some day...

Hey fellro, any chance you know where another CTD is, that is relatively cheap? A buddy of mine figured out that his bowtie is for little boys and it breaks too much, so he wants a Cummins in it. He wants the radiator, engine, computer for it, and some other things, so pretty much the whole truck. He asked if I knew anybody or anywhere that would know...and I figured if anybody....you would...haha. Good luck and have a safe trip.

Believe it or not, I do... check out the www.cummins-conversion.com site, and there is a user there trying to sell his conversion setup, It was Ford base, he has the ZF trans and the conversion plate, flywheel and all, but the motor can be had reasonable possibly. I don't currently know of any complete trucks, but keep an eye on ebay, there have been more coming through, and the price had been a bit more reasonable. http://cummins-conversion.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=175
