FRAM air filters suck !

The end cap on these cheap air filters falls off and then you are pretty much sucking unfiltered air into your motor.

This can cause you to lose a motor if dust or sand gets into you engine.

Dont buy a FRAM

That mistake cost me $320 and it could have been worse.

Fram use to be top of the line, back in the day, I don't know whats happened to them in recent years. It's hard to beat motorcraft anymore.

"welcome to the party pal".

I left a longer note on your original post. I feel for you, I would be hopping bad and sending certified letters to Fram by now. I would not let it slide without some pain involved so it gets noticed by the CEO.

Because one filter falls apart I don't think one should make a real deal out of it.I have used fram air filters for a long time with no problems, filters not falling apart or motors going bad.

I don't think fram has gotten worse, as much that other filters have gotten better. Back in the 70's, you couldn't do better than fram filters, and champion plugs, neither one rate very highly anymore. Now days, it's really hard to beat motorcraft, even thier oil is a dino, synthetic blend, filters are great, plugs and wires are top notch. Autolite plugs are good as well, as ford once owned them, autolite, and motorcraft are sorta just a copy of each other.

I am fond of my K&N air filter, I run them in all my vehicles. As for oil filters I have always had good luck with Purolater and WIX.

Somewhere I read a comparo of oil filters, they picked the Motorcraft filter as the best all-arounder, and Fram, Wix, and a couple others just didn't make the cut. Why I always use Motorcraft/Autolite. Air filter I may consider a KN drop-in, but I'm still undecided, if I go paper it's gonna be a Motorcraft.

I had the same thing happen to me with the end cap coming loose. The truck would start right up and run fine at around town speeds, but once I got on the highway it would die. After I pulled over to the side, it would start tight back up. It felt like the motor was being strangled and it was. The end cap would pull right into the intake and block off all air flow, and once the engine died from lack of air the vacuum would release and it would start up again. I replaced it with a K&N drop in filter the day I figured it out and have put over 120k on the truck since then with no problems at all.
