It wont start! (Unless I ether it)
First off, I feel the best use for a "Haynes" book is to start the fire for my next weiner roast! Another $20 shot on a Chiltons book which seems better, but still seems to exclude any fuel gauge diagrams!
The van is the 1988 E350 with dual tanks & 351w. Has about 124k miles.
The problem - it isnt getting any fuel from the tank(s). Dual tank setup. The high pressure pump on the frame is running, but seems the in tank fuel pump(s) arent. I am not getting the 12v to the under dash switch. I found a bad O-ring in the switching valve, and cannot blow through any of the line fittings on it. I should have a new one tomorrow. I do hear the fuel pump relay click (even though I am not sure where it is located). I also know there is a inertia switch after the FP relay, but the (not so) helpful books fail to tell where to find it.
Also, the fuel gauge fails to work for either tank (ran one tank over since the gauge showed it was empty, and I added a few gallons). Neither book shows good referance for that circuit. They worked before I parked it.
I dont know if the in-tank pumps are fused (guessing again - thanks Chiltons & Haynes) or just what is going on. The van has set for about 1 year, but was getting difficult to start before that. Now I MUST get it running to move it. It does fire with ether, but dies (of course) when that is gone. Yes, it has a new fuel filter. Any help or suggestions (knowledge/experiance please) with this problem would sure be apreciated!
Thank you all for any help!

try cleaning the egr valve and the idle control valve with air intake cleaner, also clean the air intake butteryflys with the intake cleaner, this may help it stay running.then make sure you have fresh gas in both tanks as old gas can cause varnish in them and clog your fuel lines and injectors. from autozone or other auto parts store.also try to tune it up.how long has it been since last tune up? try all of the above and get back with us to let us know how you make out.hope this helps
