how much is a used 390 worth

I'm looking at a used 390 with a c-6 attached. The trans. is no good to me because I've got a 4x4 and its for a 2x. The owner got it from a junk yard with plans to build it that never came through. I don't think he's ever heard it run
and says they need to be rebuilt. He also says that he thinks the motors never been opened. How he knows this......? Anyway he's asking $250. Is it to much?

Thats probably fair if you're sure its a 390. C'mon - you have to be a normal buyer of used stuff. Walk over and look at it, mumble, poke at it and shake your head, sniff the dipsticks and walk away for a couple minutes with your hands in your pockets looking at the ground. Walk back and say you're not really sure but you'd be willing to take a gamble for 150. When he shoots back you pull ten 20 dollar bills out and say you brought 200 right now. Bring a buddy - and if you decide you really do want the motor you can go back to him in the truck and "borrow" the extra" fifty bucks....

I bet you get it for 200

Around here, $150 engine and trans if you pull from the yard, $300 if they pulled it running....

I payed 200.00 for a rebuilder with a C-6 attached so 250 may be worth it if it looks good.
The tranny may still be usefull to you if you are running a divorced transfer case and the donor tranny has a bolt on yolk.
They should be the exact trannies except the donor would have a speedo gear.
Good luck.

I ran into that a couple of times before I found my 390. Once because the guy was trying to screw me. The other I think the guy just didn't have a clue. There is no visible way to tell from the outside, just have to measure the cylinder walls!

I bought a 360 with a C6 on ebay for $30.00. Nothing mechanically wrong with the engine, and it does have the heads with hardened seats.

No... you measure the stroke. The cylinder bore diameter is the same for a 360 and a 390. 4.050".
