Just noticed yesterday that while at idle, the stock boost guage shows about 1-2 PSI of boost - is that correct??? Never really noticed before.. I am running in a "juiced up mode" thanks to my Predator, so that could account for it...just thought that the turbo would not have any boost while at idle....
On the 100HP mode on my old Predator, I was making close to 3lbs of boost at idle. So, it's not your gauge. Where do you have your tap at? In the intake elbow, or inline with the MAP sensor?
Most of the trucks that I have checked boost pressure on show a small amount of boost at idle. That is one of the benefits of a variable geometry turbo.
My truck still has 1 - 1.5 lbs of boost when it isn't running alot of times. I have a Predator with my boost sender in the air intake elbow. I was going to recallibrate my gauge, but I guess it is just a new quirk of the 6.0?
When I started mine this morning I watched the boost gauge, it didn't move. I flipped to high-idle, 1200 RPM, and the gauge moved from barely below '0' to even with the '0'. When I switched off high idle, the gauge dropped back down, it was almost an imperceptible movement. I have the Ford factory boost gauge.
I have the X-Monitor, "T" in the MAP sensor. Until approx 12000 miles the boost was always at 0 at idle. Now it varies 0 to 2 and not all the time. I have 29000 mile on the dial.
I also have a 2005 F350 CC DW LB Lariat. Boost at 0 when at idle. all the time. Even on cold start mornings when engine revs up to 1000-1100 it still at 0 lbs. 21,000 miles on the clock.
