'66 vs '71 gas tank, are they the same?

Got a lead on a good gas tank from a '71 F-series. It was mounted behind the seat, as is my '66. Are they the same tank?

70-72 tank might LOOK the same but isn't
it bolts on from OUTSIDE the back of the cab and has more bolts too.

Check it out you might be able to adapt it for your use but it ain't the same.

RIngo, you may be right, but I know I used one on my '65 that either came from a '67 or '71..that's for sure.

65-70 use the same exact tank in the cab. Part number was D0TZ 9002-A. The only ones that were different were the later 68-70 with the Evap emmissions. You can get it from a F-100 thru 800, N series and T series as long as they're gas engines. 70-72 F-250-800 series gas used the same also. It's a 19.5 gal tank.

Barry:

Not sure if I understand you, but here goes: A '65-thru '70 F-series gas tank (not diesel) will bolt right in, AND/OR a '70-'72 F250-800 gas tank?

Is this correct?

Yes, you got it right. If you get it from a 70 -72 truck, it can't be an F-100 as some have the evap cannister on the frame on the right front corner.

The difference can be immediately spotted by' merely counting the bolts holding in the top of the tank.

The one you want has 3, the one you dont want has 5
