95 mustang with code# P0340

95 mustang with code# P0340

my 95 V6 mustang had a check engine light come on today and i had the codes read and the code is # P0340 which is Camshaft postion sensor circuit malfunction so my question is is this just the camshaft postion sensor gone bad or is it somthing more ? and if its just the sensor anyone know where it is ?

PS i posted on a mustang forum but never get a staight answer so i decide to come ask the secound family

Sometimes the cam synchronizer shaft can fail too. It can happen on any of the Ford OHV V6s with DIS/EDIS ignition. For example, here's a thread from the 3.0L Forum regarding the cam sensor/synchronizer failure issue on that engine:

When you go to change out the cam sensor, look over the synchronizer assembly and make sure that nothing is bent or loose, etc.
