oil drain plug torque spec (4.6L)

Does anyone know what the torque spec is for the oil drain plug on the 4.6L engine? (2003 F-150)

Thanks.

The actual spec is 10 ft.lbs but the way mdjohnson does it is how most people do.

I use the 2 finger rule (I have a habit of stripping bolts). On a 3/8 rachet, I put my index and middle finger about 1" down the handle from the head (where the socket is), and give it a couple tugs.

Racerguy,

Thanks for the information. 10 ft-lbs seems really low, but I'll give it a shot. Before I received this information, I torqued it to 22 ft-lbs. I don't believe I stripped anything though.

I've never actually torqued a drain plug but I'm pretty sure that I tighten them to more than 10 ft.lbs too.
On some vehicles that I've done oil changes on I'd like to shoot the last person that tightened the plug and the filter. Waaaaay too tight. grrrrrrrr

A torque spec isn't really all that important on the drain plug. It doesn't go under any kind of stress. I just torque mine reasonably tight, don't put too much muscle in to it. On the oil filter, I go 1/4 turn past hand tight with a filter wrench.
