I'm looking to purchase this econoline to restore, but the guy that owns it doesn't know ANYTHING about it.

VIN- E10TH496895

WB COLOR MODEL BODY TRANS AXLE
090 J E104 587 A 01

GVW CERT HP
4350 85 3600 33

There isn't any title either. Can anyone share info on how to aquire a vehicle title for something like this? It would be for the state of Illinois if it matters. Thanks in Advance.......Mark

soon as i find my super secret decoder ring i will have it for you!

you might try contacting the dmv in your state and see what getting a title entails. might be as simple as a bill of sale!

unfortunately, the decode info isnt out there. years of reading vins and some origional paperwork from ford has led to knowing how to read them.

probably have it tomorrow.

I have the factory shop manual for 1961 with the supplement for 1962 and 1963 and the decode info is in the book for all three years.

Not a 1962. My guess by the build sequence of 806210 that it is a 66 or 67. The last 1963 was 459,999.

The engine is either a 200 or a 240 big six. You can tell by looking at the intake manifold, if it is removable it is a 240 if it is cast to the head it is a 200. It could be a 170 engine because the 1966 Bronco had a 170 that was engine code F.

the info in the manuals is extremely flawed, many typo's and codes that dont exist.
some of it is pretty accurate, but a lot isnt.

blue valve cover is 140, red is 170 in the earlies.
also 3 freeze plugs is 140, 5 is 170/200/250. 250 has a differant bellhousing pattern.

and as stated, if the intake is part of the head it is a small six.
intake removeable it is a big six.

Jim, I was un aware of the flawed info. My vin for my 63 van is spot on in the book, my only question for my van is that acording to the vin it is a heavy duty but the engine is a 144 instead of the 170. My van was a special order though for Bell telephone in Sanjose CA, even still has the special green paint that Bell used.

you will find that some of the books were printed at differant times, early ones contained most of the errors. not every thing in them was wrong, but enough to make them undependable. there are a couple of years with certain codes that dont show up on anything but data plates. those have to be reaserched to find what they are.

i have had 1 ton pickups with 144's in them, and light duties with 170's.
then there is the elusive 200 code, shows up in the paperwork from ford, but only 2 are known to be real!

macs cataloge has production numbers in it. 5 years ago it was nowhere near correct, now it is better but still not right. very little is known for sure about production numbers, ford had a fire in one records keeping facility and all the origional records were lost.
a lot of the vin decodes are done from 20 years of actual on the vehicle decodes. that means the vins were checked against records and the vehicle they were on. changes are made to the files as needed, with a couple of years haveing 2-3 codes for 1 engine with 1 trans, and another code for the same engine with a differant trans.
i have even seen a few origional trucks with data plates that were wrong on 3-4 codes!

Mine is also different from most Bell vans in that it only has windows in the doors. From my Ford books they talk about the 1962 and latter Bell vans having the Falcon Club wagon windows on the passenger side but none on the driver side. My dash is also all cut up for the equipment they mounted and I have holes in the roof from the antena's and all of the badges and trim are missing.

It has not been used on a regularbases for close to 20 years, needs a mastercyl. for the brakes.
