I must be missing somehing here. If you buy a vehicle that won't stop, you park it at the dealer until the brakes are FIXED. Could there be a problem with distance perception or do we have a group of brake riders here? I have 36 K on a 04 SCAB FX4 with out a hint of brake trouble. My only bitch is with the considerable amount of brake dust created.

Do the 06 brakes still have the horrible brake dust problems the 04 did. I could detail my 04 and drive to the store and back and have my rims black with dust. OK...I am exaturating a little, but it was horrible.

I thought I read somewhere that Ford will replace the rotors on the '04 F150 as a warranty item. Is that true?

Aug 04 Scab with grooved rotors and a slight pull to the right at only 7800 miles. Dealer says all is fine with the brakes. Personally I think the brakes suck, but what do I know I only drive it daily.

I sure hope so! I noticed the rotors on my '04 were grooved within weeks after purchasing the truck. I took it to the dealer and they said that was normal and there was nothing they could do. At the time they were real fine grooves, but now I've noticed some deep grooves, and the rotors need to be replaced. I've put 20,000 mi. on the truck, but there is still plenty of pad left on the brakes. Also, all four rotors are scarred on the outer surface, but smooth on the inner surface. Made a service appt. for next week.

04 F250 with 96,000 on original brakes. NOw at 50%. I pulled a 7,000# trailer 1/4 of that and ran around town the rest of it. I can't believe how good these brakes are holding up. They are a little less powerful than I would have liked but just back off the red lights a bit and enjoy the longevity...My mechanic says he has seen them go as far as 125,000

why bring up a topic that hasnt been touched in year and half? (04-25-2006) your f-250 has a completely differnt setup on it then our f150's 1/2 ton vs 3/4 ton, and for anyone that has this problem there has been some suggestions on how to fix this.
1)there is a recall for the vacume hose. (not sure if thats a problem for the soft brakes)
2) you can adjust the push rod that applies the brakes found here: thrid post down https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...-resolved.html
3) better pads and rotors

Since this was brought back up, I can report that Ford did replace my brake pads and turn my rotors. Nearly three years & 30,000 miles later: no more brake issues. There was definitely a problem with the pads on some of the trucks in ’04, obviously some hard metal embedded in them.

06 F150 FX4 super and i have 44K on my truck and i will be doing frt rotors and brakes this week. There at the wear mark. i have a bad bake shimmy when stepping on the brakes i feel my rotors are warped. Now i also pull a trailer at least 2-times a week. the trailer empty weighs around 2200lbs loaded any where from 3000 to 7000k loaded. I have the brake box in the truck so i do have help stopping. Depends on who you talk to and what truck they have.

My problem was with the rears, the fronts are still good at 50,000. So are my Michelins!! I did have a blow out last year, so I used my spare and had it mounted on the chrome rim and matched that with one new tire to replace the blow out. I took the most worn tire and had it mounted on the spare rim, so I’ve got two new tires on the front, but the two rears with 50,000 miles still have over half their tread depth. In fact it looks like they will have to replaced due to weather cracking before the tread wears out. Definitely sticking w/ Michelins!!!

to those of you that have to double pump for it to feel stiffer, or those that have spongy brakes, i would suggest trying the adjustment behind the master cylinder, i did it and 100% better, you have to unbolt master slide forward and adjust end 1/4 turn at a time, helps if you have wheel off ground to make sure brakes arent dragging when done, search the topic soft brakes and you should find more info

It's funny. I did this adjustment on my 1987 F-150 and everyone looked at me crazy. My dad thought the brakes on that truck were soft since the day he bought it. We were changing the master cylinder and noticed the rod about a year after he gave it to me. We adjusted it and it was over 100% better! It, to this day, is high and where it's supposed to be. My new to me 05 seems to have a soft pedal, even though I made the dealership put all-around new brakes on it.... Time to do this again. The more they change, the more they stay the same. Stuff like this is why I'm driving a Ford until the day I die!

My 05 Screw has about 38000 miles. i have had a weird and intermittent vibration while braking. it seems they sometimes get hot real easy and fast and then the vibration stays under all braking for quite a while. Dealership has said nothing wrong and cannot find/duplicate the problem about 15k miles ago. plan on videoing it and taking it back.

It had the worst brakes on a vehicle that I have ever had! I had to have everything on it replaced at 20,000 miles. Calipers, rotors, lines, pads, drums, and shoes!
I had a '01 Dodge Dakota before this '07 F150. I agree, it didn't want to stop either. I always thought it was the ABS system working too hard to not lock up. But I like the breaks on my 07 F 150.
