I helped my dad several years ago change his '92 from an auto tranny to a four speed manaul after his auto went out, and it was not too bad once he got all the parts. I do not know about the newer trucks with all the computer systems and what would have to be done.

That would make it easier. Park them next to each other, swap the trannies, computers, wiring harness, steering columns, pedal assemblies with brackets.......sounds like a long day

Brian over at BTS has done some stick to auto conversions. He might have some idea on what's involved. But, depending on the cost of the conversion, you might consider betting a built auto from BTS. I don't know your reasons for going to a stick though.

why i whould like to change my auto to a stick, downshift to slow down saving brakes, do not have to travel 2 miles when cold to get overdrive, cut down on joy ride thieves because so many can't drive a stick

downshift to slow down saving brakes
That's not a very good reason IMO. Brakes are far less expensive than clutches on these trucks...might as well burn them up and save the clutch.

The best reason to swap to a stick is the one you don't have to justify....because it's freaking cool!!!

a bit ago, i was actually considering selling the beast and getting a truck just like it, but extended cab and 6 speed. i wisened up and kept it. im debating on getting a BTS unit when mine goes out, or putting a 6 speed in. i REALLY want to go that way. does anyone have a slight idea or guess what the total cost would be for everything, (say) if i could get a transmission for about $1000.

what kind of shape is your truck in? i have taken excellant care of my truck and i want a truck in excellant condition. i only have a little over 73,000 miles on my truck so there are many years left on it.

it got 25k on new clutch. transmission oil has been changed everytime at manufactures requirements. i take good care of my truck, it is well maintained.my truck has 140k. i do have 2x the miles on my tranny, but it will make it al least another 100k, since 60k of them are freeway miles.

no i havent, but i have a very expensive trans from ATS with their converter and everything. so you would be getting a killer deal. if we were to trade how would we do it, have you ever done something like this? or do you know of a shop that would do this, and do it right?
