My most humble apologies to you oleblue.
I resented that statement since the click of the submit button.
I appreciate your your sense of humor though! ^__^
Compressed air is a wonderful way to help clean any area when beginning the repairs. (did that rhyme?) Anyway,
I beggest thy pardon oleblue,
As for the forum, I am assuming that this would be in the autobody area of the message boards? And if so, which area?
Should I just browse & reply when I can be of help?
LMK & I will be glad to give it a try.
Hey John, let me know what you need help with. You (or anyone with questions on body/paint work) can email me at: moonstar667(No Email Addresses In Posts!)
Yep Jason, I'm saying that you are about helpless as teats on a boar hog. :-) Sit back down, raise your hand, if you want to say something. Don't jump up and act like you just grabbed a nekked spark plug wire. I may have to reach over and unplug your keyboard until you can behave. ;-)
What I am really saying is, that I was impressed with the way Casey wrote his response, and feel that he would be an asset to any forum that he decided to write on. The fact that you can come here and get fast and good answers for your truck questions and problems, is a reflection of the fine people that sit on this porch and try to help their neighbors.
Casey look right and click on message boards, look for the Misc. Conference area, and the bodywork board hosted by Ken Payne and olblue70.

Casey,
Yeah, don't apologize. You were right about the air thing, and with computers,it only takes one missing sentence to make someone look wrong(me).I type faster than i think most of the time.
But,yeah,Jo is right about you.9000+ members and that he can tell you will be a asset is a real compliment. There was another guy "ForeStarRacing"but havn't seen him for awhile.
Jo,can't make me mad tonight!I just bought a 69 F100 390,4spd,SportCustom, Two-tone,almost no rust and all of my missing trim for 200.(no title)but a gold mine of a truck

I too have grabbed hold of a coil wire while the engine was running. Man that was an electrifying experience! Actually more than once, the second time was purely by accident! But still a stock electrical system on a 66 mustang will knock you on your kiester! And how!
That's not the only times I have been hit with electricity, Maybe that explains why I am so good with stuff on an electrical nature. I guess you could say I have an electrifying personality!
Thanks for the ego boost guys!!! :7
I am putting in a lot of hours right now. Trying to finish up a 47 Merc. & a 65 pony.
However, I will help out all that I possibly can. Glad to be a part of this outstanding site! A1-Job!! After all quality is job 1, right?? ^__^
See ya in the forums!!!
Hey, just so that you're aware, I am changing my username to- FenderMender.
Kind of catchy, huh? Casey
First let me say hello to ya'll..... I recently purchased a '71 F-100 Explorer Custom w/302 2v with only 52k miles. It sat on the dealers lot for almost 4 years and I got the truck for $1300.00. Now I know that sounds like a steal, but I had to replace a burnt valve @ $150 bucks, I did everything except the head work. I have put new shocks all around (what shocks, they were shot), tires(dry rotted from sitting), king pins (first owner must have a ton of turning on his farm), steering dampner (old one worn almost in two), transmission lines (one had a pin hole so I changed both), U-joints in the driveline, rebuilt carb, new starter selanoid(sp?), and a few other minor things..... All in all I have spent close to $2000.00 on this truck and I haven't even started to tear it apart for restoration. The truck only has a small dent in the driver's side door, dent on the top of cab, and a small dent under chrome strip driver's side rear.... there is no through the body rust, except for under the battery box and I can get a new inner fender for around 100 bucks (which I will do) The grille is dented pretty good and needs to be changed at the expense of around $900.00. I have to replace some of the chrome as it is pitted pretty good from lack of care. There are some minor scratches throughout the body, but that is minor.
I have priced out some paint (Base Coat and Clear Urethane topcoat) all total, just for primer and paint it is around $830.00. I will probably have to spend an additional couple of hundred in prep materials as I will be accomplishing this project one step at a time and doing it right. I have about 8 years in painting aircraft and vehicles..... I know it is very important to understand that if you want a top notch paint job your prep must be almost perfect and you must take your time in accomplishing it. With all that said, I am going to end up spending a grand total of $4000.00 to 5000.00 (approx cost) I have not added everything I need to get, but that is pretty close estimate.
Sorry about the long post, but if anyone has any hints on tearing an old truck apart to do restoration, let me know. This will be my first off the frame restore.... all others have been prep, prime, and paint.....
Thanks again and may they look at your truck and say, "That is one nice truck, who did the work??" only for you to reply, "I did and am da#$ proud of it!!!"
SB2371
P.S. Forgot to add one important thing... My wife is not a happy camper, but I warned her before I bought the truck what my plans we for it.......

Your too kind, Jason. I try to make 67's my area of expertise. It's a full-time job, but very enjoyable. Welcome to one and all. Enjoy the ride. :-)
LAST EDITED ON 05-Jan-01 AT 08:50*PM (EST)[p]Materials themselves are expensive. If you get the good stuff. I have done a ground up on my Sunbeam Alpine, 77 1/2 4x4 shortboeverything done cept box) and I did it myself. Also, have a 55 T-Bird and a 58 Vette I cant wait to start.
I asked a lot of questions and took me along time. But the end result was (not to have a big head)gorgeous. I bought good equipment and supplies, decided if someone else could do it so could I,of course you have to have the place. Only thing I regret is It would have been nice having my son(age5) 10 years older to help wet sand. I primed and wetsanded 6 times. As above postings stated, If someone else does it, get feedback from customers, and definatly do not use cheap products.
This info may keep you at bay for doing it yourself:
primer paint gun---------------100.00
top cote paint gun-------------435.00
dual action sander-------------40.00
compressor---------------------500.0
filtering for compressed air---100.0
finish polisher----------------225.0
(I was lucky to have abuddy to split costs of the guns and polisher and he allready had a wire feed welder)
Oh yeah, the red paint I used was 68.0 dollars per quart.
sorry I went on a tangent, if you want a good job search.
Kevin, way to many auto's and just getting older in Iowa.
Blue, is this the one you were telling me about??? I have acess to a 78-79 F150 with a modified 400 high rise intake headers and no title was a police impound. it is almost ready to be released, only 31/2 years later the storage bill is up there so they are going to give it to the shop that towed it (a friend of mine) he gave me my first ford truck a 84 F150 302 c-4
John
Richard, do you have any vocational schools near you maybe you could enroll or at least get your truck painted for the cost of materials around here they paint them for the price of materials just so they have cars and trucks to work on!
John
Great idea for a budget project. We have some great results here where I live!
I believe I am going the liner route for now. Shiny and durable.
Durabak is my pick of choice right now...
Depends on what you are going to use the vehicle for and what your budget allows. Good luck and welcome! These guys are the best!! Kudos!!
