Faded front grill

The front grill on 2003 Super Crew has faded to gray. Any ideas on how to revive the color of it without replacing it?

I plan on spraypainting my 98 f-150 bars soon. When painting plastic, I find a platic prep primer always helps.

'97 F-250 (LD). My grill is faded also. I was thinking about painting it but it matchs the faded plastic around the rear window so nicely I'd hate to change it .

Are there any plastic primers that you recomend? Are they special order or where can I look for such primers locally? I plan on doing some painting soon. I also wonder if there is a primer for aluminum?

I dont know about the aluminum. But I got my plastic prep from a paint shop. I originally used when I got some fiberglass skirts & bumpers on my z28 camaro.

So a light sanding, some plastic prep primer & then paint.

I would check with a paint supplier about the aluminum painting.

Plastic primer is now on my list of things to get. A little sandpaper about 150 grit a lot of patients, and I'll be ready to paint. Any recommendations on the paint, my first thought was gloss black spray, what do you think?

I used Krylon Fusion on my plastic door handles and it worked great.

I plan on painting the grill shell on my '78 and I think its aluminum... I have seen them painted before (like the blue 79 bronoc in the pictoral section) I just gotta figure out if there is a special primer or something.

Tape up the grill real good to make sure you don't get the radiator or the hood. Stuffing newspaper in the grill to cover the radi. works great. I used a Rustolium can of dark grey hammered paint. It gives a really cool textured look to it. But with using this paint, it was much better to use a primer as mentioned above.

i highyl racomend krylon fusion, ist specially formulated for plastic. i painted the rear plast around my window with the gloss black. just follow the instructions on the can, no prep is really needed, just need to wipe the plastic with a solvent like paint thinner. it looks mint, i think i will paint my grill too, havent decided yet. you can get this ant any local wal mart for under five bucks. good luck

OK two questions...

1. I was hoping the grill could be removed for painting, am I right?

2. My grill has small holes in it and thought a brush would be better than spray, what is better?

For an exact factory match use SEM Bumper Coater #39173 Dark Smoke

Available at most every body shop supply. Specially formulated for adhesion to plastics. NO primer. Scuff w/3M pad, three light coats...
